His most recent foray into a sci-fi story (The Circle) may not have worked, but Tom Hanks isn't staying away from the genre. He'll star in a new film called Bios.

Craig Luck and Ivor Powell wrote the script on spec and now Game Of Thrones veteran director Miguel Sapochnik is on board to call the shots as the project attracts the attention of various studios in Hollywood – a fever that is likely to increase with Hanks aboard.

The plot finds a robot living on a post-apocalyptic, ruined Earth. Originally designed and built to protect his dying creator's beloved dog, it'll learn lessons about love, friendship and all those ideas that are so prevalent on a shattered planet. Hanks has agreed to play the dying creator of the machine. With luck, the cameras will start rolling early next year.

Hanks has been busy working with Steven Spielberg's The Post, which arrives on UK screens on 19 January. Oh, and for those who enjoyed his Saturday Night Live character David S. Pumpkins, there will also be this...
