There's a big change happening behind the scenes at American Gods, and it's not necessarily a positive one, at least if you appreciated how the show was run during its first season. Executive producers Bryan Fuller and Michael Green have left the show.

Gods, which adapts Neil Gaiman's tome about old gods battling new for the worship of mankind, had a successful first run of episodes and was renewed for a second in May, when it had only broadcast a couple of episodes.

Now, though, it appears that Fuller and Green were pushing for expanded budgets per episode in the second season, with the cost already nearing $10 million for each hourlong show. Producer Freemantle Media refused, and the two decided to leave their posts.

They'll both be busy regardless, as Fuller is working on a remake of Amazing Stories for Apple and Green has several film and TV projects in development. There's no word on who will take over American Gods going forward.
