It's been all change at the top since we last reported on the developing remake of Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder. David M. Rosenthal is now set to direct, replacing James Foley, who's moved on to both Fifty Shades sequels. And with Rosenthal comes Michael Ealy to take the lead. Director and star worked together just last year on the thriller The Perfect Guy.

This Jacob's Ladder remains a strange proposition, since it doesn't actually seem to be a remake at all. Rather than retelling the psychologically troubling tale of a Vietnam vet (played in the Lyne film by Tim Robbins) who tries to figure out his past even as he’s haunted by increasingly strange hallucinations, this take will apparently focus on new situations and characters, but maintain the existential themes. Variety calls it "a modern day paranoid action thriller about two brothers".

The screenplay has been through the hands of both Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) and Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter). Will Packer is among the producers. There are no start or release dates yet.
