Though Michael Bay has said he wants to direct some smaller, more personal movies now he's moved on from the Transformers franchise, it looks like DC and Warner Bros. have another suggestion for him: the companies are after Bay to make the Lobo movie.
According to The Wrap's sources, Bay has had at least one meeting with DC to talk about the film, which currently has a script by Wonder Woman's Jason Fuchs. He offered some notes (more explosions?) and Fuchs will be taking another pass at the script before Bay makes any final decision. So, to be clear, he's not attached yet.
If he does make a deal, he'll be handling the film take on the DC character. The greasy, long-haired and interstellar type first appeared in the pages of Omega Man issue 3 way back in 1983, birthed by creators Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen as a riff on the likes of Wolverine. The blue-skinned, KISS-styled goon cropped up from time to time as a reckless villain, though he was rarely well used. But he saw a real revival in the 1990s, when he was dragged out of footnote limbo, dusted off and re-imagined as a bounty-hunter, his morality dial cranked around to point more towards "anti-hero". He's proven to be a tough nut to crack in movie form, with Warner Bros. cycling through Guy Ritchie, Brad Peyton and writers including Don Payne on the project.
We'll see if Bay actually ends up working on this one, which would mark the director's first superhero film. Cue the sunsets!
