In 2015, it was announced that Michael B. Jordan would star as a real-life lawyer in a legal film called Just Mercy. Since then, the movie has been buffeted by some tough breaks, including the closure of production company Broad Green Pictures. Warner Bros. has now stepped in to take it over, and it's looking like the next film that Jordan will work on.
Short Term 12 writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton adapted Bryan Stevenson’s memoir Just Mercy: A Story Of Justice And Redemption alongside Andrew Lanham and will call the shots starting early next year.
The story will follow Stevenson’s work as a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a company dedicated to defending the poor, the wrongly convicted, women and children. One of his earliest cases was Walter McMillian, sentenced to die for a murder he insists he didn’t commit and at the centre of swirling mire of conspiracy and political double-dealing.
Jordan is then going to move from that to the Creed sequel, which is still aiming to be out later in the year, though it may have to shift. The actor will next be seen in Black Panther, due out in the UK and US on 16 February.
