Anthony Hopkins is a knight. The next Transformers film, in which he has just been cast, is called The Last Knight. Does that mean he's the title character? Yes, pick up the pieces of your mind, which we've just blown all over the shop... Or just read on, because that's probably not the connection.
That Hopkins is joining Michael Bay's latest robogasm might be a surprise, but Hopkins has never been shy of popping up in popcorn fare, and he's made for an authoritative Odin in the Thor films. Nothing has been revealed about Hopkins' role in the new Transformers, though we wonder if he'll actually be on screen, or if he'll be voicing some giant robotic warrior.
Hopkins joins a cast that already includes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner and Jerrod Carmichael. The script comes from Ken Nolan, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who were all part of the writing room assembled to crank out new concepts for future Transformers sequels and spin-offs.
Bay kicked off shooting in Cuba and is now at work in Detroit. All we really know about the story is that Megatron will yet again be causing trouble. The Last Knight will rumble into cinemas on June 23, 2017. Hopkins, on our screens now in Misconduct, is set to return as Odin for Thor: Ragnarok, which is out on October 27 the same year.
