With US channel HBO offering a look at all of its incoming programming via a quick teaser during the finale of Sharp Objects (you can find that video at the bottom of the page, including snippets of Game Of Thrones), the third season of True Detective was included. But the crime show got its own teaser, which you can see below.

Season 3's story revolves, according to the official synopsis, around "a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods." Mahershala Ali stars in this one as Detective Wayne Hays, with Stephen Dorff playing his partner Roland West.

The likes of Carmen Ejogo, Scoot McNairy, Sarah Gadon, Mamie Gummer and Ray Fisher are also in the cast for the new season, which once again comes from creator Nic Pizzolatto (with crime genre veteran David Milch consulting and writing one of the eight episodes). Green Room's Jeremy Saulnier was hired to direct alongside Pizzolatto, but he departed after working on just two episodes, with Daniel Sackheim taking over the share the job with the creator.

True Detective will return to US screens (and, one assumes, the UK) in January.
