The consequences continue to flow for Kevin Spacey as more and more revelations and accusations surface. In the most unexpected – though perhaps not, given what we've been learning – move, Ridley Scott, his fellow producers, the rest of the cast and crew and Sony Pictures, have all agreed to work together to replace Spacey with Christopher Plummer in Scott's latest, All The Money In The World.
It's a shocking development, as the film is finished, and had been preparing to premiere in the AFI Festival's closing night slot. The story of oilman J Paul Getty refusing to pay the ransom for his kidnapped grandson, All The Money In The World featured Spacey in prosthetics to play him. Concerned that the scandal might doom the film, and endanger the jobs of everyone who worked on the film, Scott and producers Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas will shoot replacement scenes featuring Plummer acting alongside Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg. And while Spacey only a handful of days of the film, his role is significant enough to need replacing.
All involved will need to move quickly as the film's US release date (22 December) is coming up quickly. Spacey, meanwhile, is seeing his past poison his acting future, with Netflix looking into ways to wrap up House Of Cards without him (or cancel it outright) and ditching a film starring the actor as Gore Vidal.
