Marvel usually prefers to stay quiet about future plans and the people it has developing them, and aside from the occasional comment from Kevin Feige, we usually get anything more concrete when news escapes the studio's clutches. In this case, we have The Hollywood Reporter learning that Matthew and Ryan Firpo have been hired to work on the company's film based on The Eternals.

Word about this possible future franchise emerged last month, with Feige confirming that the Eternals were under consideration. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the saga began millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered and near-immortal beings and a more monstrous off-shoot known as the Deviants. The two races moved behind the scenes throughout human history.

It's certainly an out-there concept, but Marvel has shown plenty of willingness to explore the cosmic corners of the comics world, with the likes of Guardians Of The Galaxy and, to far lesser effect, The Inhumans, which was unceremoniously sent to the TV graveyard this week after one low-rated series.

As for the Firpos, they hit the Hollyradar thanks to hot spec script Ruin, which tells of a former Nazi captain looking to atone for his war sins by tracking down and offing former members of his SS squad. The script hit the 2017 Black List of favourite unproduced screenplays and is in development with Justin Kurzel attached to direct and Gal Gadot considering taking a role.
