We can already envision the No-More-Remakes brigade lighting their virtual torches and sending out digi-flyers to gather the mob, but there is another planned redo of a movie in the works. The Conjuring's James Wan is producing a new take on 1990 spider horror-comedy Arachnophobia.
The original, directed by Frank Marshall (who these days tends to focus on producing giant movies such as the Jurassic World franchise), saw a species of South American killer spider hitching a ride in a coffin to a small town north of the border, where it breeds and spreads and starts to attack the residents.
Jeff Daniels and John Goodman were among the stars of the movie, alongside 374 Avondale spiders hailing from New Zealand. We'd expect the vast majority of the arachnids this time to be brought to life using CGI, because the spider union is a very tough organisation these days, not to mention PETA.
Wan, despite his history with horror, won't direct, choosing instead to simply produce via his Atomic Monster company alongside Amblin, and the hunt is now on for a writer who can spin a new story.
