After working together on Veep (with Laurie playing Senator Tom James on the HBO show Iannucci created), Hugh Laurie and Armando Iannucci have clearly created a professional rapport as Laurie is now starring in Iannucci's new series, a space-set comedy again for HBO that is tentatively titled Avenue 5.

Plot details still remain scare for this one, though it's described as a comedy set in the future, and mostly in space. Laurie has snagged the lead, and will be Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control American captain of the Avenue 5.

HBO has already ordered a pilot and several future scripts for the show, which mean it can get moving if the first instalment passes muster. And it's not the only collaboration between Iannucci and Laurie, as the actor is playing Mr. Dick in The Personal History Of David Copperfield, which should be on our screens next year.

In addition to that, Laurie will crop up in the Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy reunion Holmes And Watson (out 26 December) and has a role in George Clooney's miniseries adaptation of Catch-22 for streaming service Hulu.
