Harrison Ford is not a man who makes a lot of movies these days, and seems to mostly spend his time re-visiting classic characters. He's also never lent his voice to an animated film – until now, that is, as he's joined the cast for Illumination's sequel to 2016's The Secret Life Of Pets.

He's not the only newcomer for the sequel, as Patton Oswalt, Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll and Pete Holmes are all on for the new movie, which sees the return of Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell and more. Notably, Louis CK, who voiced main character Max, will not be back after revelations about his behaviour that broke last year. Oswalt is taking over his role.

Chris Renaud is returning, though, directing from a script written by fellow original Pets collaborator Brian Lynch. While Deadline's report features no information on the plot or what character Ford is playing, distributor Universal is making its big presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, so more details should be forthcoming.

The Secret Life Of Pets 2 is currently set for release on June 7 next year in the States, with UK audiences getting an earlier peek starting 31 May.
