In another awards ceremony that buzzed with politically charged energy – aside from a couple of the film presentations, all those handing out awards were female – the Screen Actors Guild happened Sunday evening in Los Angeles. Frances McDormand and Gary Oldman were among the big winners in the film category.

Host Kristen Bell – in a first for the ceremony, which has always done without one before – called for "empathy and diligence" in the struggle for change in both the industry and the world.

Oldman took home another award for his work as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, while McDormand won again for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which also scored the Film Ensemble award and a Supporting Actor trophy for Sam Rockwell.

Allison Janney was also a repeat winner for her role as the bitterly driven mother of Margot Robbie's Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, and chose to thank the cast over the usual praise for agents and managers. Morgan Freeman, meanwhile, was given the Lifetime Achievement award.

The film winners are listed below. For the full category line-up, including TV (where Big Little Lies, This Is Us and Veep all did well), head to the SAG site.
