When there is an Emma Thompson script around to be optioned – an original story, no less – you know people are going to be scrambling for it. In the case of Last Christmas, Universal has landed Paul Feig's services to direct it.

Written by Thompson and Bryony Kimmings, the script is largely being kept wrapped in shiny ribbon for now, but according to Deadline it's pitched as a festive romance set in London. Whether Thompson will end up starring or even appearing remains to be seen, but she is a producer on the film.

Feig has thriller A Simple Favour due out on 21 September, while Thompson will be seen in Johnny English Strikes Again (put 5 October) Late Night opposite Mindy Kaling and has voice roles in The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle and Laika's Missing Link.
