If you're looking for love on Valentine's Day in a couple of years, how about Channing Tatum? No, he won't be wandering around cinemas offering dates, but you might be able to see him starring in Gambit, which 20th Century Fox has now assigned a 14 February, 2019 release date.

It's the most positive step forward yet for a film that has endured losing several directors and a mountain of previous script drafts – not to mention a 2016 release date that it never made. And Fox clearly thinks that the new slot could do well after Deadpool's success on the Valentine's Day weekend last year.

Gambit, which will find Tatum as Remy LeBeau, the smooth-talking, kinetic energy-utilising Cajun X-rebel glimpsed in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine (played there by Taylor Kitsch) has Gore Verbinski on board to direct and Josh Zetumer currently listed as the most recent writer.

So now we'll see if Gambit manages to make his debut in the X-movie universe or if he'll keep waiting in the wings a little longer.
