Based on the Thomas Mehem's timeless stage musical of the same name, this movie version tells the story of red-haired orphan Annie ( Quinn), who leaves the prison-like orphanage run by trampy Carol Burnett and her twisted partner Tim Curry, and finds her way into the home and the heart of mean millionaire Daddy Warbucks (Finney). Annie remains a heartwarming tale, with fine music and decent acting performances. However, the movie version leaves two nagging questions what possessed John Huston to direct a musical, and why on earth did it cost $60 million to make?
