Though there have been rumours and news stories about a new Police Academy movie – be it a reboot of the original or a continuation of the seven films to date – nothing has actually graduated from development training. Now one of the primary cheerleaders for the idea of another, one Steve "Mahoney" Guttenberg says that it's still on the way.

The Gut's tweet doesn't specify what sort of film might be in development, but it's keeping the flame alive at least. In the last few years, The Break-Up and The Wedding Ringer's Jeremy Garelick has been writing a script before Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele reportedly took over on the reboot front (though they would both seem to be a little busy right now to do it).

Can the Police Academy series continue after 1994's Mission To Moscow? Must it reinvent itself for today's comedy tastes? Either way, sounds like Guttenberg will be involved.
