Looks like Brett Ratner will be able to afford a few more super model-filled parties… X-Men: The Last Stand is a massive hit at the US box office, opening the record-snatching figures and peeing all over The Da Vinci Code’s big win last week.
With the advantage of a Three-day weekend (which means a four-day box office take), Marvel’s mutant horde stormed (no pun intended) the box office records with $121.1 million, to become the fourth-highest opening ever, behind Spider-Man, Revenge Of The Sith and Shrek 2. It’s also the second biggest first day ever, just behind that Lucas fella again, with $45.5 million on Friday compared to Sith’s $50 million smash opening on a May Wednesday last year.
That sound you hear is Ratner lighting $100 dollar bills on fire and putting them out with $500 bottles of champagne. Meanwhile, Camp Da Vinci saw a 56% drop in audience take, with the adventures of Tom Hanks’ hair forced into second with $43 million.
It won’t surprise you to learn that no other big movies opened this weekend. Next week, Jennifer Anniston tries to prove she still has box office potential in The Break-Up.
