Further advancing the boundaries of the Internet is Metafilmics planned $3million production, The Quantum Project, which is to pioneer the online film world by becoming the first feature-length flick intended for initial release on the Net. For those that remember the name, Metalfilmics was the company behind What Dreams May Come, the Robin Williams feature that nabbed itself an Academy Award for best visual effects. Fingered as the primary distributor thus far is Sightsound.com, which offers music and previously released movies for download on its website. If the current production schedule is anything to go by (filming begins this year), we could see the premiere by Spring 2000. The Quantum Project itself tells the story of a hero who takes a spiritual journey via the web. Details are sketchy at best, though directing is Francis Glebas, who directed one of the segments from the upcoming Walt Disney production, Fantasia 2000.
