Watchmen, The Mandalorian And More Nominated For The 2020 Emmys

Watchmen (HBO)

Despite a slight delay because of the current pandemic, the 2020 Emmys announced the nominations this year, and there was further proof of the various American streaming services dominating the categories. And some new arrivals on the scene, including The Mandalorian, Watchmen and The Morning Show made a big impact.

On the drama front, some repeat performers included Better Call Saul (though there was criminally no nomination for Rhea Seehorn), The Handmaid's Tale and The Crown, while The Mandalorian cracked those ranks (and picked up a slew of other nominations). On the comedy front, Dead To Me and What We Do In The Shadows are taking on the veteran likes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Watchmen had been expected to do well in its limited series format, with plenty of acting nominations (Regina King!), while Mrs. America and Little Fires Everywhere were big hits with voters in the acting category.

Some surprises? No room for Reese Witherspoon or Nicole Kidman this year, while we're pleased to see D'Arcy Carden and Mahershala Ali make the cut. The ceremony itself will happen on 20 September, though we've yet to learn exactly what form it'll take.

The main categories are below. You can find the full listing via the Television Academy right here. Though there is no category for Best Baby Yoda, which is a disgrace.
