Good news for our US readers. Well, good news for our US readers who live in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Minneapolis – for you’re about to become the first people in the world to see Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut version of Watchmen. All three hours and change of it.
Although the movie is set to come out on DVD and Blu-ray on July 21, with an additional 25 minutes of footage restored to Snyder’s dense, visually stunning adaptation of Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel, Warners is rolling it out in cinemas in those four cities for one week only, from Friday July 17.
It’s all part of the build-up to a giant BD-Live screening of the movie at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday July 25, at which the aim is for viewers in North America (boo!) to be able to watch the movie at the same time as people in San Diego Convention Centre, as well as take part in a post-screening Q&A with Snyder.
Of course, British Watchmen fans will have to wait until July 27 for the DVD/Blu-ray to come out, and the chance to see that extra footage, including the senseless murder of a character briefly featured in the original theatrical version. Americans, you may now begin gloating.
