After last year’s triple-whammy of Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to gear up Phase 4 in 2020 – or, ‘this year’ as we’ll now be calling it. And that not only means big-screen outings in Black Widow and Eternals, but the first in the upcoming wave of Disney+ streaming series too. While The Falcon And The Winter Soldier was always expected to launch this year, it’ll now be joined by another show which has been shifted up.
The jauntily-titled WandaVision is now due to arrive on our (small) screens this year, having originally been dated for spring 2021 – as confirmed in a Tweet from Disney+.
The show sees Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles of Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, and Vision respectively. But with Vision having been killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, the show looks to be set in some kind of warped ‘50s sitcom-inspired version of reality. The series will somehow feature appearances from Kat Dennings’ Darcy (of the Thor movies) and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo (of Ant-Man And The Wasp), and will reportedly tie into the upcoming film Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, coming to cinemas in May 2021. The series is directed by Matt Shakman, a veteran TV director who’s worked across Game Of Thrones, The Boys, The Good Wife and more.
There isn’t an exact release date for the series yet, but expect it to arrive late in the year – after Black Widow and Falcon And The Winter Soldier get the Phase 4 ball rolling.
