We really thought we might actually be done writing stories about movies being delayed due to the pandemic. But nope! Sony has decided to shift the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage from its current September slot to mid-October.
With the Delta variant roaring across the world, studios are once again showing hesitation about putting their bigger movies on to the box office slaughtering block, especially in light of several titles seeing an impact on their returns.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage seesTom Hardy's Eddie Brock and his violent, talkative alien symbiote alter ego back for more chaos, this time facing off against serial killer Cletus Kassidy (Woody Harrelson) and his own symbiote, Carnage. Andy Serkis is in the director's chair for this one.
Right now, the change applies to Stateside plans, but you just know the ripples from this decision will hit the UK before too long. In related news, Sony is also reportedly considering taking Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (the fourth in the franchise) off of its big screen schedule entirely and moving it to streaming (probably Netflix, given the deal between the two companies). Kids' movies are an even tougher proposition given the move towards requiring proof of vaccination to enter indoor venues and the lack of vaccine ability for children under 12 in the US.
