Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant has been lined up to direct a love story about two gay cowboys, Brokeback Mountain. The film is an adaptation of the story written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, E. Annie Proulx, for the New Yorker magazine. Proulx's cult novel, The Shipping News, is also being made into a movie. Brokeback Mountain was published in the Oct. 13, 1997, issue. It's about two contemporary cowboys who fall madly in love, but also have families, and deals with their making some heavy choices about their lives.
