Betty Thomas (director of Dr Dolittle and The Brady Bunch Movie) is in talks with Twentieth Century Fox to remake 1967's Valley of the Dolls. Thomas will share the producer's role with Jenno Topping. The original film was based on Jacqueline Susann's best-selling novel of the same name, which spent 65 weeks in the New York Times bestseller list. The film concerns three women who head to New York seeking fame and fortune, hit the heights, then spiral down again in a morass of drink and drugs. The studio are apparently hoping for something along the lines of Thomas' knowing approach to The Brady Bunch Movie. There are also currently two movies being made about author Susann's life, as well as a remake of the Russ Meyer campfest follow-up, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
