After months of being shrouded in secrecy, we’ve finally got a glimpse into the latest output from Jordan Peele’s twisted mind. Fresh from announcing himself as a major filmmaking talent with Get Out, he’s back with follow-up Us – and the trailer has arrived, neatly wrapped, on Christmas day. Not that this is a cheery gift – it looks like this one’s even more of an all-out horror than Get Out, pitching a nightmare scenario for Lupita Nyong’o and family. Watch the trailer here:
As we now know, Us focuses on a family – Nyongo’s Adelaide, her husband (Black Panther breakout Winston Duke) and their two kids – who venture away on a beachside holiday. There they find themselves joined by Elisabeth Moss and Tim Heidecker’s couple – so far, so sunny. But then a family turns up on the driveway in the middle of the night – a set of creepy doppelgängers, donning deep red clothes and wielding sharp golden scissors. Cue a kill-or-be-killed ordeal that looks to get seriously trippy.
It looks set to be another bold and bloody horror from Peele, with a more expansive scope than his sharp, searing debut. And the good news is, there isn’t long to wait – Us arrives in UK cinemas on 15 March, and you can read more about it in the Ultimate 2019 Preview issue of Empire, on sale from Thursday 27 December.
