Kids’ book makes movie magic

There’s barely a children’s book series released these days that isn’t immediately signed up for a film deal, often in the hopes of becoming the new Harry Potter. But increasingly books are being readied for adaptation before they’re even released.

The latest in this trend is Jason Lethcoe’s forthcoming kiddie adventure Tales From The Wishworks Factory, which has been optioned by Universal studios.

Wishworks, which Lethcoe plans to make into a series, is set in a magical bureaucracy that grants wishes to people on Earth, but only if they follow strict rules, e.g. keeping the wish a secret, shutting their eyes when wishing. A battle erupts between the Wishworks and their rivals, the Curseworks, when a child somehow gets his wish for unlimited wishes past the Wishworks.
