What a difference a few months makes! Back before the big announcement about the fourth film, On Stranger Tides, the word was that we might not see Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow come sauntering back on to our screen any time soon. But of course, Disney wasn’t going to let that treasure chest go unplundered for too long and now, according to HitFix’s sources, there are quiet moves afoot to weigh anchor on another pair of **Pirates adventures.
Nothing has been officially announced, yet, of course, but Drew McWeeny reports that, “Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6. And, yes, once again, they will be shooting them back-to-back as one giant film, and then they'll release them as two films.”
As he points out, Depp’s schedule could be an issue, since the actor is now on board to shoot Dark Shadows and **The Lone Ranger **next year, but since the latter film is a Disney project, there’s always a chance it could shift in favour of him slapping on the bandana and eye makeup again.
And while aiming to replicate the punishing back-to-back schedule of Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End would be a task for everyone involved, it’s not surprising the Mouse House would want to capitalise should On Stranger Tides prove to be as big a hit as the last couple of films.
This one, we suspect, will develop as the promotional push for Tides rolls out...
