Caught off-guard last year when the DVD release for The Fellowship of the Ring was followed by an immeasurably superior Extended Edition, fans have become more savvy this time around and have bided their time for the inevitable second edition. Even so, it would have been hard to predict the immense level of demand for The Two Towers' deluxe DVD edition, with sales in the US thought to have been between 750,000 and one million copies in the first day alone. Showcasing 42 minutes of extra footage as well as bundles of special features, the four-disc release is nigh on essential for fans of the trilogy and has stunned pretty much everyone with its opening sales figures. "It's flying off the shelves," a spokesman from HMV told the BBC. "It's got real cult appeal and it's building up nicely for the theatrical release of the next Lord of the Rings film next month."
