One of Hollywood's most glamorous couples, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, have announced the end of their 10-year marriage. The statement which was released by the couple's publicist ended years of gossip and rumour about the marriage, and today showbiz pundits speculated that it had been made to pre-empt a tabloid article on the couple. The statement read as follows: Tom and Nicole have annoucned they have regretfully decided to separate. They cite the reason for the separation as career differences which have constantly kept them apart.' While it's true that both the Cruises had careers which hardly allowed for a moment's break between projects, it seems strange to say that work 'kept them apart.' The couple had made strenuous efforts over the years to ensure that work didn't come between them - Cruise was responsible for Mission Impossible 2 shooting in Australia so that he could be close to Nicole who was filming Moulin Rouge there. However, despite both actors' efforts to show a brave face to the public, rumour has dogged the union and cracks appeared to be showing last time the two were in Britain. A shop assistant who called Nicole 'Mrs Cruise' was sharply reprimanded and left in no doubt that the correct form of address was Ms Kidman. There'll be no mistakes on that score from now on.
