Tom Cruise and sci-fi has often proved to be a winning combination, and the box office success of his latest, Oblivion, is on track to continue that trend. So you won’t be surprised to learn that he’s now attached to another project, Warner Bros’ Yukikaze.
The film, which doesn’t have a writer or director attached yet, will be adapted from Chohei Kamayashi’s novels. His work has been favourably compared to Isaac Asimov, and Yukikaze finds 21st century mankind under attack from an alien force known as JAM.
Gliding through a dimensional portal, the extra terrestrial invaders swarm the Earth, but we fight back and then gather a team to take the battle to JAM on its home planet. We’d guess Cruise will be back in fighter pilot mode for the new movie.
It won’t surprise you to learn that this comes from producers Erwin Stoff and Tom Lassally, who also developed and steered Cruise’s next foray into speculative fiction cinema, All You Need Is Kill. That film, adapted from Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s graphic novel, is directed by Doug Liman, is set to hit here on March 7 next year. Oblivion is out now and you can watch the trailer below.
