The storm clouds have been gathering in recent months around the sunny relationship that Tom Cruise had enjoyed with Paramount. And apparently, Tom's recent behaviour and the less- than- spectacular returns of Mission: Impossible III haven't helped.
Now comes the rain of tears – Mr Tom's Cruise/Wagner production company is splitting from his Paramount partners after 13 years, with both parties issuing duelling press releases. "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal. His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount,” said the studio’s missive. What, a guy can’t jump up and down on a couch or criticise psychology without someone getting annoyed? Jeez…
Cruise/Wagner Productions agents at CAA fired back that they’d ditched negotiations to reconnect with Paramount because the producers have decided to finance the company via unnamed hedge funds, or possibly with $100 million they found down the back of Tom's sofa. Let's hope the currently strained situation gets a bit more amicable soon.
