Studio execs breathe sigh of relief at film's box office sucess

The release of Cameron's epic has been met with a large dollop of relief at Fox. The stunning reviews and huge box office take mean that the flic could even earn small profit above its $200m price-tag. Don't expect Fox to be wielding such immense cheques in the near future though. Studio chairman Bill Mechanic reckons that such massive costs can't be justified, "We hopefully dodged the bullet... But to think you can keep dodging that same kind of bullet is unrealistic. The business is not expanded enough to take those kinds of risks. You don't want to play those kinds of odds," he told yesterday's LA Times. Huge strain was put on staff at the studio and the shoot (not just the rumours of LSD spiking of the crew's food) and the another $200m film at Fox " movie "is not going to happen" according to Mechanic. Shame, because as Titanic proves, if your film's good enough, it's worth spending the money on. Batman and Robin, Speed 2 meanwhile...
