Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead

There was plenty of news coming from the Walking Dead panel at Comic-Con this year, with word of new casting, updates on the various TV shows (including a new one), but there was also movie news. Though we'd all been expecting the movies following what happens to Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes after he's badly hurt in the middle of Season 9 and picked up by a mysterious helicopter to be shown on TV, Universal has hit Twitter to announce that at least the first will be in cinemas.

No other details were offered, though Dead content boss Scott Gimple has said that the films will explore Rick's story going forward separate from the rest of the show's plot lines. The movie will also not be shown on US network AMC, at least not for a few years. And we'd expect the planned second and third films to follow suit. Aimed at keeping Lincoln in the TWD universe while making the schedule work around his family, the movies will likely kick off shooting this year or early next.

The teaser is short, limited to just showing a helicopter flying towards a city, and no other information has been released. Lincoln, obviously, is starring, but beyond that, it's a mystery for now. Expect to learn more in the coming months.
