The Grudge (2020)

The Grudge is one of those concepts that just keeps coming back, much like the demonic, long-haired young woman who crops up once again in this trailer for the latest American remake. With Sam Raimi as a producer again (much as he did with the 2004 and 2006 movies), prepare to do the horror mambo again.

For this take on the concept, written and directed by Nicolas Pesce, based on Takashi Shimizu's original Ju-On: The Grudge, we follow John Cho as a real estate agent trying to sell a troubled house. Quite how troubled no one is ready for: the site of a gruesome, rage-powered murder, it's now the home to a powerful spirit looking for revenge. And the likes of Andrea Riseborough's cop,Demián Bichir's fellow lawman and characters played by Lin Shaye (who really should know better given her terror credentials), Betty Gilpin and Jacki Weaver are all drawn into the fear.

The new movie will be out in the UK on 31 January. Can it live up to some of the others? That's an even scarier concept.
