Tekken Movie Gets A Director

Are they Tekken the piss? Another movie based on a video game? Haven’t we been burnt too many times already?

New reaches us via Variety that the game which made its debut on the original PlayStation way back in 1995 is due for a cinematic overhaul with Dwight Little at the helm.

Who he? You say? Well, Dwight’s awesome resume includes big snake sequel Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid and Wesley Snipes’ thriller Murder At 1600.

Based on the Namco series, Tekken is reportedly set to be a futuristic martial arts action flick.

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people," says Little. "It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

How spectacular that spectacular is set to be depends on how much Little has learnt from his previous forays into martial arts territory – he helmed the frankly appalling Brandon Lee flick Rapid Fire and the Steven Seagal starrer Marked For Death.

Forgive us if we sound negative about this project, but, thanks to the legacy of crap video game/movie translations, we've found there’s only so many times our hearts can be broken. Mr Little, we hope that you prove us wrong.
