More hints that the Oscars won’t be the sure fire Spielberg blitz so predicted a few months ago. Last night’s Screen Actors Guild awards threw up a few surprises and there’s probably good reason to take note as three out of the four winners a couple of years ago scooped prizes on Oscar night. Biggest shock of the night was Roberto Benigni picking up the Best Actor prize for his role in Life is Beautifulwhich he also wrote and directed. After spinning the presenter of the award Helen Hunt around he said, "every organ of my body is moving in a very bad way." The Best Cast Performance going to Shakespeare In Love also raised a few eyebrows. Kathy Bates took Best Supporting Actress for Primary Colors, Robert Duvall was Best Supporting Actor for A Civil Action Adding more weight to her trophy shelf was Gwyneth Paltrow for Best Actress in Shakespeare in Love. Oscars will take place on the 21st of this month.
