The Sundance Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize was won by Marc Levin's movie Slam, a documentary-style film about the unjust imprisonment of an impoverished street poet from the ghettos of Washington, DC. The Audience Award and the Filmmakers' Trophy both went to Chris Eyre's Smoke Signals, about the effort of a Coeur d'Alene Indian to make sure that the body of his father has a proper burial. The Grand Jury Prize for a documentary was shared by two films, The Farm (about a Louisiana prison), co-directed by Jonathan Stack and Liz Garbus; and Frat House (about... er, a Frat House), co-directed by Todd Phillips and Andrew Gurland. The dramatic Directing Award went to Darren Arnofsky for his film Pi, and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award went to Lisa Cholodenko for High Art - which she also directed.
