Good news for all those fans disappointed by the TV miniseries Earthsea - Ursula K. Le Guin's seminal fantasy series is to be adapted by Studio Ghibli as Gedo Senki (which means "Gedo War History").
The first book in the Earthsea series, A Wizard of Earthsea follows a young boy called Ged who becomes a wizard called Sparrowhawk, but must spend much of his life trying to defeat an evil that he accidentally unleashed upon the world as a boy hungry for power and knowledge. Along the way he learns words of power, talks to a dragon and faces down death itself.
The film is to be directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of Hiyao, and is due for release in July 2006 in Japan. See the first images for the film at Ghibli's website here.
