If you’ve smelt the distinct whiff of nostalgia emanating from the internet, that’ll be because everybody’s currently talking about Stranger Things, the mysterious 1983-set televisual love letter to the Amblin generation, and Netflix’s latest hit. One of its most celebrated elements was the synth-y John Carpenter soundtrack – which is now, happily, set for a proper release.

Never one to do things in small doses, Netflix are releasing two volumes of music from the series. Volume One features the original Carpenter-esque score from Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, better known as the band S U R V I V E.

Details for Volume Two, meanwhile, are yet to be revealed, but we understand that will be more of a compilation soundtrack. The show has featured classic 1980s-era tracks like Foreigner’s Waiting for a Girl Like You and Toto’s Africa, so crank your nostalgia-o-meters up to 11 when that arrives.

Volume One of the soundtrack is set to be released on August 12, and old-school physical formats (though presumably not cassette tape) from September 16, while Volume 2 gets a digital release on August 19, with a physical release on September 23. The Stranger Things TV show, meanwhile, can be streamed in full on Netflix now. Read our interview with the Stranger Things creators here.
