Newsday columnist Liz Smith has reported that three top film stars have hired private detectives to investigate the personal lives of the leading US tabloid editors. Smith reports that the subjects of the investigation are the National Enquirer's Steve Cox, the Star's Phil Bunton and the Globe's Tony Frost - as well as their wives, girlfriends, girlfriend's family and friends. Smith - who would not identify the stars ("but believe me, they are mega") commented, "it's going to get uglier and messier on both sides of the battle befor the fallout from Diana's death dies down.
