John Williams might be stepping down from scoring Star Wars films in the near future, but before he does there’s a new way to experience his work on The Last Jedi. Those lucky folks in the USA have got early access to the digital download of the film, and it comes with an all-new version of Rian Johnson’s bold take on the saga.

Tweeting about the home release, Johnson revealed his favourite special feature is a ‘silent’ version of the film that cuts out all the dialogue and sound effects, and amps up Williams’ music. “I really wanted to put this out, it’s really something to see John’s music play with the movie, like a silent film,” he wrote.

Rather than being accessible on the Blu-ray itself, it sounds like the score-only version is a digital bonus redeemed through the Movies Anywhere app which at the moment is solely a US-based service. It remains to be seen whether the UK will get a similar option to access the silent edit when The Last Jedi arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download over here on April 9. If not, get those ‘release the Williams cut’ banners at the ready.
