In a post-The Rise Of Skywalker world, the future of Star Wars appears to be in flux. There’s The Mandalorian and the final season of Clone Wars over on Disney+, and big screen projects still supposedly in the works from Rian Johnson and from Marvel overlord Kevin Feige – and now it seems there’s a new project in the mix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, another Star Wars film project has just hit the radar.

While Disney nor LucasFilm have confirmed anything – so take this very much as early talks for now – the report claims that director JD Dillard, most recently behind Blumhouse’s Kiersey Clemons-starring survival horror Sweetheart, is working away at a Star Wars film in collaboration with Matt Owens, a screenwriter who worked on Netflix’s Luke Cage and The Defenders series, as well as Agents Of SHIELD. There’s no word yet on what exactly the film will involve – when it will be set, or how it will intersect with the existing universe – or even if it will be intended for theatrical release or a launch on Disney+. But the report claims that it is a separate project to those being worked on by Feige and Johnson.

As ever, stay tuned for official word from the studio before getting your hopes too high – and if anything has become clear in recent years, it’s that Star Wars announcements don’t always end up in fully-realised Star Wars movies or shows. In the meantime, UK fans are only a month away from catching the first season of The Mandalorian, which begins rolling out when Disney+ hits UK shores on 24 March.
