Star Trek: Discovery To Return For Season 3

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2

Even with all the producer/writer re-shuffling in Season 1 (and to a lesser extent, Season 2), Star Trek: Discovery has become a solid performer for US streaming service CBS All Access (the show's carried by Netflix in the UK and elsewhere). Which is why it's not all that surprising that the crew will be back for a third season.

Naturally, since the new season is in the very early stages of being figured out, there are no details of what it might entail, and we'll have to wait until the end of Season 2 to see hints (as with the reveal of the Enterprise and Captain Pike at the end of the first season). But we do know that there is another shift behind the scenes, albeit a positive one as Season 2 co-executive producer Michell Paradise will make another jump to co-showrunner with Alex Kurtzman. "Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward," Kurtzman says.

Discovery remains at the heart of CBS's attempts to expand the Star Trek. We already know a show featuring Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard is on the way, and there are various spin-offs and animated offerings in development.
