Spielberg Talks Tintin and Transformers

CHUD.com got a chance to talk to Steven Spielberg yesterday and the director spilled a few details on two of his upcoming projects, Tintin and Transformers 2. Oh calm down, you can read about Indy IV in a separate story.

As you no doubt know, Spielberg is overseeing a trilogy of motion-capture Tintin films, based on Herge's comics about a young Simon Pegg-clone solving mysteries. He'll direct one, Peter Jackson another and an unnamed director will take the third. Spielberg told CHUD that he plans to shoot his film in just thirty days and that Jackson will join him for at least part of the shoot, suggesting that we can expect some kind of unified Spielberg-Jackson style (awe-SUM!) on the films. This will also be the first Spielberg film not to use ILM for the special effects, since Jackson's Weta will be doing all the pixely gubbins. Does this count George Lucas out of directing part three, then?

On the Transformers sequel, Spielberg said that the robot sequel could start shooting as early as the end of this year, which gives Ehren Krueger (did it have to be Ehren Krueger?) until about lunchtime today to finish his script. There was also confirmation that Shia LaBeouf will return as Sam Witwicky for the second and, possibly, third films.
