Following the (largely) collective sigh of relief when Sony and Marvel announced that the two companies had hatched an extension to the Spider-Man sharing deal, word arrives that one of the key people who contributed to the success of the last two stand-alone Spidey films will also be back. Director Jon Watts is now making a deal to make the third movie.
According to Deadline, Sony and Disney looked to figured out the specifics of their new deal (Tom Holland's Peter Parker will appear in a third Sony outing that will be co-produced by Marvel's Kevin Feige – with Disney kicking in 25% of the budget for a 25% revenue stake – and the character will also crop up in another, unknown MCU film) before looking to wrap Watts back in the filmmaking web.
Given that Watts has helped the character's current incarnation to around $2 billion, his return isn't perhaps a surprise. Now the challenge will be following both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the new movie due in July 2021.
