For all their technical wows, there's one thing that's often been missing from performance-capture animations. Something that, judging by its new full-length trailer, The Adventures Of Tintin has plenty of: warmth. Take away all those sinister villains, seaplane crashes and new-wave haircuts, and you've got a tale of an ageless boy and his canny dog. And, hey, there's not a dead eye in sight.
What there is, though, is plenty of the Boy's Own brio we love about Hergé's adventure books and a lot more of the odd-couple friendship between the Belgian detective (Jamie Bell) and his oft tipsy sidekick, Archibald Haddock (Andy Serkis). Together with Snowy and hapless detectives, Thompson (Simon Pegg) and Thomson (Nick Frost), they're embroiled in a dangerous plot revolving around mysterious brigand Red Rackham (Daniel Craig).
brightcove.createExperiences();As well known as the boy wonder is on this side of the pond, Steven Spielberg's adventure must win over Stateside audiences who might not know their Tintin from their Rin Tin Tin. Judging by this, he should be well on the way. The movie is combining the storylines from The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham's Treasure into one storyline.[
The Adventures Of Tintin: The Secret Of The Unicorn is out in the UK on October 26. Click here for a look at the teaser and Tintin artwork.
