Until recently, movie soundtracks rarely sold well - but that fact has changed in recent years. Pulp Fiction, the Disney animated features and Titanic have proved that a good soundtrack is a big money earner. A new wave of films is set to bring the movie and its soundtrack even closer. The reasoning seems to be that why tack a popular musician onto a movie when you can make the movie about the muscian and have an instant album of hits? Thus at least six biopics are currently in the works. Expect to see John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Miles Davis, Phil Spectre and Elivis (again) hitting the big screen in the next couple of years. Oh, and keep those record tokens handy - with back catalogues this size, you can bet the soundtrack will come in two parts. It doesn't end their, though. There's also talk of biopics on Robert Johnson, Johnny Rotten, Otis Redding and Monkees. It looks like a fad in the making. . .
