Welcome to another round of Film Company Grabs Classic Novel As Source Material. The latest book to catch Hollywood’s eye is William Faulkner’s 1929 book The Sound And The Fury.

Untitled Entertainment and Picture Entertainment have teamed up to nab the rights to the story, which follows the hard-luck fortunes of the Compson family. The Mississippi family is scraping an existence at the turn of the century, with their tale told through the eyes of the three brothers and house servant Dilsey. The boys are fascinated by their sister, who was banished from the family home for her disruptive behaviour.

Fury has already been filmed once before – in 1959 with Yul Brynner and Joanne Woodward in the lead. W Merritt Johnson will write the fresh adaptation, but there’s no director attached yet.
