Here's a project sure to set the hearts of music – and musical – fans beating a little more quickly: Once and Sing Street director John Carney is planning a new movie based on the tunes of iconic composer George Gershwin, with Martin Scorsese producing.

The film, currently known as Fascinating Rhythm (taken from one of Gershwin's songs), has Carney co-writing the script with Chris Cluess. It is not planned as a biopic of Gershwin, but will instead be a musical focused on a young woman’s magical journey through past and present New York City. The Gershwin estate is on board and the movie will feature his music throughout.

Gershwin is the creative genius behinds music such as 'Rhapsody In Blue', 'Let's Call The Whole Thing Off', 'Summertime', and more than a dozen Broadway musicals (he has a theatre named after him, which might give you a hint as to him importance). No studio is attached yet, but come on... Carney's grasp of music on film and Scorsese as producer? This will be snapped up quickly.
